We are in This Together

DSCF3401

If it is an echo that you seek,
a far-off cry, resounding and important,
reverberating off the storied walls
of ancient times, if you are reaching
very nearly into the great void
hoping to hear the sounds
emerging, muffled and true,
in the great winds that have brought us
everything we know and hold dear
from places we may never go
and people we might never meet,
or be, if we are straining to hear
the sounds containing all that wisdom,
and we will sacrifice everything
we know, for that which we don’t,
if fear has turned into determination
and the seedlings of love keep growing,
then know: you are being listened to,
you are heard, felt, seen, and loved.
You will not fall. We are seeking together.

There is No Time

dscf7935

We move through time
The hours and minutes
A life force from below
mounting through our feet
like a slow-burning fire,
The days our discoveries
of Sun, Moon, Starlight;
The weeks the stories
Streaking through the sky
Giving us our memories,
Creating a past of ghosts;
The years our wisdom
Won from movements
Enshrined in our remains,
Sloping down hair of grey,
Embedded in our lined faces;
And there is no place
For everything we know,
And when the fire
Is reduced to embers
And finally to ash,
There is no time that stops,
Just life to be discovered
By those who come next,
And they will find
All of our gathered secrets
In the butterflies
Hovering over spring flowers,
In the fireflies
Making dances in the night,
In the birds
Connecting all the mountains
They will never climb
And that would otherwise
Never find their flight.

Awe

DSCF1799

There are times, before the awe
washes everything else away,
when I am confronted by beauty
in all of its varied manifestations,
and all I desire is to stare, without end,
while asking: tell me what you know.
Tell me what you know; I am starving
for the secrets you must harbor within;
you made it look so effortless: this beauty.
At times like this I do not yet trust
what it is that I know, that brought me
along the footpath leading to wonder,
the trails that have led me to awe.
To penetrate the wisdom of another,
one has just to look, to want to see,
not from the mind, always hungry,
not even from the eyes, so receptive,
but from the heart, where no words live,
where we are all, so sacred, already joined,
and from the hands, our heart’s extensions,
that reach out to touch this love, embodied,
that cries with us in our painful searching,
rips away the spaces between me and you,
where doubt grows, where only awe should be.

Our Love that is Everywhere

DSCF9199

your love is
coming from your
eyeline
stretching out
to the world beyond.
your love is also
out there in
the great vast
cosmic space,
looking at you
too, yes,
but let’s
rest our eyes.
it is surrounding
you, enveloping
you, giving you
the universal
embrace
you often
forget to give
yourself.
it is not
someone else’s
love.
it is your love,
the one love,
meant also
for you. – TS

The Universe Whispers

p1470250

a whisper
breathed in
just the
right spot

where
shoots spring
from the warm,
dense forest
floor,

where drying
crackling
leaves sway
in the thin
mountain air,

where
the mother
ends and
the child
begins,

will echo
from here
to eternity

will reverberate
as forcefully
as a thousand
songs

will tell the
only stories
we need
to know. – TS

The Path to Spring

DSCF9068

These are restless, porous days,
when what has been dried out
and hollowed in the living of
our darkened, wintry existence

Gives way, as moon to sun, to
the watering of spring, the juicy
filling out of aching joints, the
shadows of heart awaiting light

The long ache of cracking through
of stepping out, of tentative steps
to sun-drenched emergence, finding
the will to enter our rightful place

Come to the tree, then; she has been
through this hundreds, thousands
of times, has seen cold, barren land
quiver, and then zealously come to life

Feel her wholeness, her towering
solidity, and feel also the light, the
upward trajectory, ground to sky
the roots of her ever generating.

Wrap your arms around her and
remember, because you always
knew, that when mind surrenders
to heart, the movement is true. – TS
