How Mysterious the World!

DSCF0570

How mysterious the world is!
I cannot take my eyes
off the sun and the universe
that feed our world, its beings,
and our common dreams.
I try to look through
what I can see before me,
but the eyes, of course,
do not take us there.
So I try to go first where
my senses can take me,
because these are the gifts
we have been given,
and gifts by nature grow.
There it is, a cosmos
at the bottom of a teacup
on an artist-adorned wall,
hidden in the shadows
made by startling sunlight
streaming in through the temple’s
raw, wood-framed windows,
in the space of a gap-toothed smile.
A few brushstrokes evoke
the dance of enlightenment,
a pure joy of being,
two colours combine to suggest
the realm of infinite possibility.
Why do we rest where we are?
Dive into the unrest
for just long enough to grasp
that the world is shaking up
so that the pieces can resettle,
as they always will,
to forge a new direction
for the wild and untamed
and brilliant seekers among us.

What We Need is a Song of Peace

DSCF9849

What we need
is a song of peace
that begins
in the deepest recesses
of the heart
and does end until
every single heart
has heard the call
and come forward,
until the rhythm
of one is impossible
without the rhythm
of all the rest,
until there is tolerance
for dissonance
and a growing love
for the sounds
of highest unity.
It is a song
that goes back
farther than any of us
can remember,
and it does not end,
and we can bring
our voice to it any time.
The heart can expand
to take in the sounds,
the beats, the feeling
and the healing
in one instant
that has the flavor
of all eternity.
This is the song
that we are,
the song that we share.
With the biggest
kind of love.

Light in the Dark

DSC_0304

We all see in the dark.
The future, I would think,
depends on how how soon we forget
our source in protection,
on how consumed we become
by what we find there,
and on the light we work
to cultivate inside of us
to create exquisite contours
where only shadows lived,
to see the dark
as the sculptor of the light,
knowing that as light fades,
so does the dark,
so that we can find our way
to the river of shades
and in betweens,
before night turns to day
but day seeps into the skin
like a brilliant tuft of cloud
winding around the mountain,
and no borders can thrive here,
and the vision is not clear
so we learn a new way to navigate
and in doing so, we breathe
a new world into being.

An Invitation

DSC_0027

This is an invitation
for you to find the space
to sit, to feel the salve
of everything that grows
and is, so that you, too,
can have your place here

But it is also a reminder
that everywhere you go,
and it will be far, and long,
you will find the best part
of yourself lying in wait,
so you can discover again.

Enter the Unknown

DSC_0312

The forest is speaking;
the trail calls out to me.
The trees communing,
and inviting me in.
The fog, too, beckons,
as it lives among the wild,
visiting, it seems,
from another realm,
obscuring the way
to teach me patience,
because I always
want to know more,
and teaching me
how to change the view
by removing, gently,
with nothing but softness,
everything I might have
expected to find,
or desired to have before me.
This act of disappearance,
of a world I am too inclined
to judge, discern,
and lose myself in,
brings what remains closer;
here I am, it seems to say,
right in front of you,
close enough to give you
a lifetime of discoveries,
and it is and sublime,
and there is nothing else
until the next moment,
and the next. Have faith;
enter the dewy morning,
and with each step,
the way will gift itself
to you. Stop thinking ahead,
my love, and allow
the great movement to unfold.

The Wind … the Wind

DSCF1583

The wind, surrounding us
with the sum total
of all the conversations
we’ve had from ancient times
until now, hushed, still,
animated, violent and awed,
and yet, it is the power
of the wind to distill
from our human fragility
all that is sacred, warm,
and flowing in all directions
from our one true heart,
and sometimes this sound
amounts to a gale in the night,
and others, a whisper
by a pond in the heart of day,
a gentle coaxing,
a giggle that beguiles,
a secret that is not a secret
at all, infusing us with
its wisdom, saying this:
You are all that has come before,
You are all that will be,
You, like I, have been everywhere,
And even in silence, you breathe
In your desire to take what is One,
Which is Love, to the edge
of all things, and beyond.
Love is the way; you are the carrier.
You are the the wind; the wind is you,
Communing with oceans and sky,
Rivers and rocks, mountains and birds.
It is all one thing, a progression of love
From the inside out, up and around
From our one never-ending heart,
To the very heart of the world.

To Catch a Dream

DSCF1731

Let something catch your attention.
It has already taken you out of
the stronghold of your tenacious mind.
Give it its due. Look from all angles.
Try to find out what has arrested you:
Colours, shapes, textures, surprises
That give rise to an array of feelings.
It did not scream out to your senses
Because of what it, in essence, is,
But because of who you, uniquely, are.
Let it be your starting point, your guide,
As you go inward, as a scientist would,
To observe the foundations of your self.
What makes you sing? Cry? Laugh? Hope?
What brought you here? Who is the dreamer?
What is the dream? Where will it take you?
How have you been hurt on the path of life,
And who have you hurt, what are your regrets?
Excavate the marrow, the heart, the blood
That connects you to your ancestral tribe,
The womb of your mother, the great deep blue,
Find the dance that spans generations
And culminates in your life’s expression,
Free, always free, you must fight for this,
For the truth in the discoveries you have made.
Now, with this great determination of truth,
This intimate encounter with your lovely self,
Turn back to the world. You are ready to see.
It is ready is ready to be seen. Magic begins.

A Prayer, A Soft Place to Land

DSCF0456

Our prayers are not for we and they;
We pray because we want to know,
Finally, that the soft and loving places
Where prayers land know no division.
There are places all over the world,
Across the entirety of the map of one heart,
Where we can travel to, wayward at first,
But with increasing sense of purpose,
That will greet us like the loved ones
We now, after ages, know that we are.
They are shrines large and small
Decorating the most modest of habitats,
Honouring the dead and reminding us
That we have never walked alone;
They are the colours, sounds and textures
We can finally recognize for what they are,
Unique as the moon to our stargazing hearts
To our experience of being human,
So that we will never overlook them again.
We close our eyes, join hands together,
We stand where we are, in silent tears,
And know the prayer has brought us here,
The prayer is all around us, ancient, wise,
That it created the conditions of our lives.

My Offering To You

dscf1208

For you, who are
an extension of me,
an offering of all
I’ve ever had to give,
though it only appears
to me now, a sun
blooming over the mountain
on a full moon dawn
like the warrior
of life and of light
that has been waiting
for me to turn toward it
every morning of my life.
I am here.
I stand before the mountain,
in awe of her perseverance,
patience, mammoth strength,
and the sun that emerges
to the sound of birds chirping
and distant cars rumbling
fills the other half
of the world.
Sun and mountain fill the frame,
one stately shape making room
for pure awe of the space
that surrounds it, pink,
pure and new,
and this is what I offer you,
my full, hopeful presence
that will never take away
from the vastness of yours.
