All our Tomorrows

DSCF9291

soft now,
treading slow,
eyes widening in wonder
at how –
at just because,
for the way we have
been blessed with
our existence,
so much of what
is ours to
witness,
the kingdoms under
our feet,
the fairytales in
the great waters
of the world,
and I want to sit
on the gleaming sand,
and make a castle
that will be as
glorious as it is
free to wash
away
and I want to
reflect on the
castle of my body,
and learn its
every shape
today,
and watch it
gracefully go the
way of all things,
slow,
into tomorrow.

Today, The Ocean and Sky

dscf8718

sometimes
i wonder if
the bottom of
the ocean floor
is a reflection
of the true
contents of
the sky,
the dazzling
totality,
the jewels,
pristine light
and glittering
shade of all
that life,
and that
the sky,
as though
aware of
our need for
a reprieve from
feeling and
knowing
too much,
covers the
glistening
bounty of
all that is,
to give us
the mood
and shade
we can
abide by
just for
today. – TS

Hush –

DSCF1601

hush –
she wants to show herself
to you, to enfold you
into one of infinite
possible worlds
nesting here
all along,
with her
ethereal jewel-like colours
hues of ocean and sky
impossible to put
to word, and
the sounds,
pretty and
muted,
hush –
let us spend time here,
and find what is clear
and what is true,
and what we
can bring,
hold,
hush … – TS

The Woman I Am

dscf1592

if i look close enough
i’m at ocean’s bottom
hovering just above
a bed of rock and gem
unbound by the weight
of my own body
and all her secrets

for here, the little stones
speak to me in silence,
the vibrant lush ones
know songs I have
not yet learned,
transmuted into colors
my heart understands

and what if it is
not the deep seas
and I am still governed
by the laws of earth-
bound nature, and I
am no longer a mermaid,
but a woman who can
choose the light and free? – TS

A Little Piece of Me

dscf1588

her brow
beaded with
sweat,
tendrils of hair
clinging to her skin,
afraid to
look ahead,
her eyes fix
on the trail
of thistles, dried
pebbles and moss,
and she trips
anyway,
her mind
buzzing with
the crickets
and cawing
with the birds
confused about
coming or going,
which brings
her to the sea
and to her place
on the shore,
trembling on
loose sand
caged, somehow,
beneath all that
vast sky,
never certain
which of the
world’s horizons
to claim. – TS

The Wind Knows

DSCF5882.jpg

the wind knows it
without pausing for
a million years,
a hollow shell of
itself, in search of it.
where does the wind
come from?
it always seems to
have somewhere
to go. it seems to
encompass the
very best parts
of direction.
i often long to be
submerged in the
ocean’s depths,
surrounded by all
that subterranean life,
defying gravity
with an ephemeral grace.
but it is the wind
that tugs at the
heart of me
as it rustles up
what has been
long asleep,
imbuing me with
the magic of
the free, and
making promises
i know it can keep.
I will dance in the
wind and let it
carry me home. – TS

Love Never Departed

dscf8844

Lover of ocean
At home in the sea
Where the light dances
And shimmers like dreams
That wake up the world

Your iridescent beauty
Like the sun glinting on waters,
Unites us in radiant oneness
Lifts us with sparkling heart
Loves with a boundless love

In grace you glide
Across our crystalline earth
To the depths of the waters,
And with your gift, the spirit of love,
To the very heart of the vast blue sky. – TS
