On a Morning Almost Spring

DSCF9849

It is all for you,

That sweet smell

The rain-soaked cedar

Living out its last moments

Close to home,

The breathing earth-fire

Of the sacred mountain,

The new leaves budding,

The insects always

Finding their way,

Knowing where to rest,

And how to carry out

The meaning of their lives.

For you, that I drop

To my knees, to be close,

Too, to all that splendor

We forget to call home.

I bring hands to heart,

And the cave within

Becomes the whole horizon,

The sun, hidden before rain,

Still finds its way

Into the space between

Blood and bone,

Heart and mind,

And I don’t have to wait

Anymore, no, I find

That I am already here.

Where Beauty Lies …

DSCF3740.jpg

Where beauty lies,
It is our duty to find it,
bow to it, make it bigger.
Be in awe, constant wonder.
Where beauty does not yet lie,
It is our duty to grow it,
nurture it, cultivate it,
pray for it, make it so,
be the beauty
we would like to see,
touch, feel, live, experience.
What is beauty? It is love.

To You, I Bow.

DSCF0308

To you, I bow.
To the child within,
Bright, pure, ready and seeking,
Whom we are holding tight
And caring for every day,
With you, and when you cannot.
To your radiance, I bow.

To all, I bow,
Eyes closed, heart open,
The sounds stretch for miles.
I flutter my eyelids open,
Connect what I see with what I am,
Reach out from deep within.
To all the great wonders, I bow.

To us, I bow,
our shared humanity.
To where our stories converge,
And where they do not,
To our capacity to listen,
With full heart and presence.
To the awesome power in this, I bow.

For the Muse

tammystone

for the gardens
that never succumb
to the weight of
their history,
for the ancient
wooden structures
that become
more full of love
with each passing
year, until one
day they will
collapse from
the enormity of
this love that has
seeped into
its bones,
for the muse,
which compels me
to bring heart to hand,
word to page,
even when i don’t
know what i
have to say,
even when no
expression will
ever reflect
what inside, too
is always changing,
with gratitude
for the trying,
for the going on

For this Life (Gratitude)

10101_10152381953245607_1284263717_n

Bound by the earth and stars
Which is to say, alighted by the
Offering of full freedom

I walk along the shore
Guided by the soft and roaring
Motion of the ocean’s waves

I turn inward to find
What’s true, I blossom out
In turn, under moon’s wisdom

I wade through fields, awed
By the creatures I find there,
All this life generating life

I fall to the ground, wondrous,
Free, amazed by my presence
In all of this, my part to play,

As gratitude, not for the first time,
Fills me, and I vow: I will soak it in,
Lap it up, make use of precious time.

The Upward Gaze

DSCF2589

it all comes down
the shining star
the ray of sun
the sultry rain
the rainbow down

we are gifted
with the idea of
looking up
of setting our sights
to the heavens

the fruit on trees
the birds so free
the mountain peak
we are rewarded
with what we see

and it all comes
down for us, to us,
so let’s not bury our
heads in the ground:
give thanks: it’s found! – TS

All the Brilliant Things

21713_10152288617425607_2010083473_n

sometimes
i want to gather
the most exquisite patterns
the most transporting paintings
like a mural-sized piece of outsider art
I found once by a Japanese artist in Toronto
that put a lifetime of colour and emotion onto one plane
together with the books
that fold all the way through time
that i can only spread out in my imagination
and it is not a spreading out so much as
a tunneling through, an accordion expansion
so that i can traverse them as i would
a dense forest trail in which everything lives
and also every loved one
i would like to gather
all of this brilliance around me
like a pile of crisp autumn leaves
and I’d like to take a deep breath at dawn
and finally, finally understand what i have,
and say thank you for waiting, and dive right in. TS
